Camelot

The original story of King Arthur, Queen Guinevere and the realm of Camelot date back almost 1500 years. Although the original telling by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his fanciful and imaginative 12th-century Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain) was already almost 500 years after the events described.

Who Arthur truly was or even if he ever existed at all is lost in the mists of time. His legend however, endures to this day.

In the Camelot chess pieces Arthur and his Queen are portrayed, as they are in almost all literature and art, as heroic medieval rulers. They are surrounded by a Christian bishop, knights on foot and horseback and are flanked by a medieval era castle.
